The Universal Healer Om
The Indian tradition describes three methods of mantra repetition. The first is verbal, the second is whispering and the third is mental, the last being the most potent, recommended for the advanced practitioner of a steady mind.
The chanting of Om and the practice of Om meditation has also found increasing acceptance in western medicine in its fight against stress ans disease. Medical studies have shown AIDS patients increased their T-cell counts. Heart patients have reversed their disease. People have discontinued their antidepressants. Cancer patients have gone into remission. Those in chronic pain have found relief.
Om has resounded through the centuries healing mind, body and soul. Through the words of the mystics and the masters. Through scriptures, prayers and music. From the fire ceremonies in forest ashrams to the ancient temples of India. From the hermit caves in the Himalaya to the modern meditation class, Om is the sound supreme!
Whatever our faith, or purpose in chanting Om, the words of the Masters down the centuries tell us the same truth; the contemplation of Om the universal vibration, takes us further on the inner journey of the peace within. Om Shantih Shantih Shantihi.
Listening as Gateway to Nirvana
"Ananda, you and all who present at this assembly would do
well not to be distracted by the myriad noises of this fleeting
world and return to the greater way of your listening nature.
Buddhas enter into Nirvana by way of this great gateway."
Shurangama Sutra
As I sat on that beach my former experiences came to life;
I 'saw' cascades of energy coming down from outer space, in
which particles were created and destroyed in rhythmic pulses;
I 'saw' the atoms of the elements and those of my body
participating in this cosmic dance of energy; I felt is rhythm
and I 'heard' its sound, and at that moment I knew that this was
the Dance of Shiva, the Lord of Cancers worshiped by the Hindus.
